Project Description

Let’s encourage kids to read

WHAT’S MORE IMPORTANT FOR LEARNING THEN A GOOD BOOK TO READ?

Brief

The aim of the project was to understand how improving the reading experience of the kids living in Windhoek, Namibia.

The project made in collaboration Yambeka Children, it was composed on 4 participatory workshops made in 3 schools (one private and two public) located into different areas of Windhoek (one in the center and two in Katutura the biggest township of the capital): Amazing kids academy, People’s Primary School, Moses Van Der Byl Primary School. The participatory workshops were on two topics: two classes worked on designing the reading places, and two classes worked on designing the book of the future.

Results

For all the four workshops, firstly we showed them a collection of case studies of libraries, spaces for children, innovative books around the world, in order to let the children get inspired.

Then it followed a brainstorming of ideas to let them propose the elements and the characteristic of the space/book. Three main ideas clusters have been created and the kids in groups had the opportunity to design and prototype their own school reading space/book of the future.
